The Duwancho Natural Coffee Processing Site is located in the village of Duwancho, within the Abena district of the West Sidama region. It is owned by a group of smallholder coffee farmers organized under the Duwancho Multi-purpose Primary Cooperative Society.
This cooperative was established in 2019 by coffee farmers residing in the villages of Duwancho, Rumudamo, Bochesa, and Shamatanto.
The overarching goal of the cooperative is to provide market services for its members, enabling them to earn better income from coffee sales. However, until the cooperative formed a partnership with Yihonal Trading PLC in 2021, none of these goals could be realized. Yihonal built offices, warehouses, and raised drying beds for the cooperative, acquired additional land for coffee drying operations, and began offering efficient market services to the cooperative’s members.
Yihonal directly collects or purchases coffee cherries from cooperative members and processes them using three methods: standard natural (dry) process, anaerobic fermentation, and red honey process.
