November Cupping –
“The Power Beyond Grind Size and RPM”
Weber EG-1 vs FM Grinder Cupping Experience
📅 11/9 (Sat)
Oasis will be hosting our November cupping on November 9, and this month’s theme is all about grinding.
Over the past year, we’ve taken a deeper look into grind size distribution.
At first, we noticed that grinder RPM (speed) made a very obvious difference in sensory results, so we quickly assumed that higher or lower RPM simply affected the amount of ultrafine particles (below 200μm).
But as we continued researching—especially right before this year’s competition—we were surprised to realize that our original assumptions were far too simple.
Our biggest discovery:
For different coffees — across different roast curves, processing methods, and varieties — the behavior of ultrafine particle distribution changes dramatically, even when the RPM is the same.
That means the grinder’s impact is not just about speed — but about how it interacts with each specific coffee.
We know it’s difficult to fully explain this in just a one-hour cupping,
but we want to share a small part of our findings through a grinder comparison tasting.
So for this month’s cupping, we will grind the same coffees using both:
🔹 Weber EG-1
🔹 FM Grinder
Same grind size.
Same RPM.
Different results — and you get to taste the difference side by side.
We think it’s going to be fascinating — and we’d love to have you join us.
